In preparation for a major reform in the Apprenticeship system of Italy, this government initiative was aimed to provoke ideas sharing, identification of strengths and weaknesses as well as best practices to be adopted for delivering high-quality apprenticeships.
The Black Country Learning and Skills Council (LSC), Tipton-based mechanical engineers Mitsui Babcock and the Black Country training provider, Performance Through People were hosts for this event. Apparently, the selection, training and assessment processes used in the Black Country has been able to provide the Italian consultants vital information on ways to enhance employee skills, making them more valuable, efficient and competitive. The Apprenticeships were admirable because they also provide the individuals with a clear sense of career path and the possibility of maximising their capabilities.
"These are some of the key qualities which we must ensure from part of the Italian approach to reforming our Apprenticeship programmes," commented Giorgio Allulli, Director of Research at the Italian Government's Labour Ministry (ISFOL).
Mitsui Babcock carries out repair and maintenance work on power stations and refineries throughout the UK. The company is currently delivering training to 102 adults, including 73 of its own apprentices, and now plans to take on a further 50 "“ 60 apprentice per year.
