By 2010, the LSC aims to make British young people and adults as skilled as their global counterparts, a venture contributed to by the national Apprenticeship Awards which recognises the employers who have been exceptional in developing the skills of young people through Apprenticeships.
This year the awards contain a new category for micro-businesses employing between one and nine people, as well as recognising companies of varying sizes. These are assessed on a number of criteria including how well a program has been implemented, the level of support give to an apprentice through their organisation and a clear demonstration of how Apprenticeships have benefited a business. There are also personal Achiever Awards for those in the 16-18 and 19-24 age categories, given to those who have exceeded expectations and brought their business measurable benefits.
Last year's winner of employer of the year was Lancashire company Forbes Solicitors. A spokesperson enthused about their good relationship with the Government initiative Connexions and said "We recruit high quality young people with qualifications that provide a foundation for their development at Forbes. This ensures that we have access to young people of a very high calibre."
This years awards are being sponsored by British Gas, BT, Skills for Business and City & Guilds and for more information or to apply for an award visit Apprenticeship Awards
