P> The Learning & Skills Council has awarded Land Rover's Dealer Apprenticeship programme a commendation for its commitment to the development of young people, following the recruitment of a record 430 apprentices. Chris Banks, the Chairman of the LSC presented the commendation and said, "Land Rover is an excellent example to employers both in the automotive sector and the wider business community of a company that is directly benefiting from apprenticeships. By offering high quality training and a clearly defined career path, apprenticeships play a crucial role in attracting the best and the brightest young men and women to the industry." The Apprenticeship scheme, based both in Warwickshire at the company's Gaydon Headquarters and Halewood and the Merseyside based Jaguar production facility, will lead apprentices through a 3½ year development programme consisting of placements at 174 dealerships. Each apprentice will attend courses at one of three centres across the UK, which will cover key skills, an NVQ and a Technical certificate. Throughout the course each apprentice is supported by a personal tutor through dealer visits and practical observations.
