Dragon launches National Enterprise Academy Print E-mail
Wednesday, 23 September 2009 18:03

Peter JonesPeter Jones has launched the first ever education institution solely focused on teaching 16-19 year olds enterprise and entrepreneurship.

The telecoms entrepreneur, and co-star of popular TV show Dragons Den, says the National Enterprise Academy (NEA) will give young people the skills and mindset to succeed in the modern business world.

NEA will offer brand new qualifications in enterprise and entrepreneurship at Levels 2 and 3, which have been developed in partnership with awarding body Edexcel. The Department for Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS) has also invested up to nine million pounds, matched by employers, to help NEA enrol almost 18,000 learners in its first five years.

"Unlocking the potential of Britain’s young entrepreneurial talent is essential to the future success and competitiveness of our economy and there is arguably no better time to create a National Enterprise Academy than during a recession, says Mr Jones.

"The UK needs entrepreneurs to stimulate the economy and businesses need inspired employees to help their companies recover quickly. With the continued support of Government and the private sector, The National Enterprise Academy will create both."

Edexcel's managing director, Jerry Jarvis, added: "I am delighted to see the National Enterprise Academy open its doors, equipping the next generation of learners with the skills and confidence to succeed. We have enjoyed working in partnership with the NEA to develop our BTEC level 2 and 3 qualifications in Enterprise and Entrepreneurship.

"I am certain the Academy will nurture young entrepreneurial talent and contribute a positive impact on the UK economy."
