LSIS to offer £1000 training grants at Teaching and Learning conference

The Learning and Skills Improvement Service (LSIS) is offering providers training grants of up to £1000 as part of the annual Teaching and Learning conference (June 15).

Providers, ranging from colleges to offender learning institutions, will be able to claim for part of the £50,000 funding pot on the day.

David Collins, chief executive of LSIS, which is organising the London event with the Institute for Learning (IfL), said: "With the whole sector bracing itself for funding cuts we are trying to redistribute money directly to providers.

"Teaching and Learning is one of our proudest success stories at LSIS and we are continually striving to listen to what the sector wants and doing our best to help providers fulfill their ambitions."

LSIS has also recently made available three funding streams for providers looking to improve their use of resources.

The new resource utilisation network fund offers providers up to £25,000 for initiatives such as the introduction of distance learning. The flexibility and innovation fund has also announced its third round of bidding, offering up to £50,000 to fund innovative measures that benefit the wider sector. Additionally, LSIS, together with IfL and the Sunderland Centre for Excellence in Teacher Training, is supporting another round of research development fellowships to foster practitioner research.

"We know belts are being tightened across the learning and skills sector, as a sector-owned and sector-led body we are making funds available to providers at a critically important time" said Dr Collins.
