'Outstanding' college appoints new deputy

Monday, 26 October 2009 08:32
Gateshead College, currently among the top colleges in the country following an "outstanding" Ofsted report, is appointing a new deputy principal.

Former assistant principal for quality Judith Doyle will replace Kim Davies, who announced his retirement earlier this year.

"I'm delighted to be appointed deputy principal and to move to a new role which will allow me to continue the work achieved so far in placing Gateshead College at the forefront of learning for young people, adults and businesses," says Ms Doyle.

"I feel very passionately about education and the opportunities it can open up for people and I’m very excited about the increasing opportunities for people of all ages and abilities in Gateshead."

The college was rated with grade ones across all six areas of Ofsted inspection in January this year, and has been awarded a national Beacon Award for Teaching and Learning.

As its new deputy principal, Ms Doyle will be responsible for ensuring Gatesead's curriculum content and delivery remains at the highest standard so the college can maintain its excellent reputation.

Principal Richard Thorold says: "It is with much pleasure that I welcome Judith to the post of deputy principal. During my time working with Judith she has proven herself to be an extremely focussed and committed leader who is regarded very highly by both her colleagues here at the college and by our partner organisations.

"I’m looking forward to working with Judith to continue the development of Gateshead College and to build on the fantastic strategic partnerships we have with leading influential organisations."
