The Project is a new qualification available for 14-19 year olds from leading awarding body and assessment specialist, Education Development International (EDI), www.ediplc.com. The Project forms a compulsory part of the new 14-19 Diploma qualification but is also available as an accredited qualification in its own right, helping prepare students for further study, higher education or the workplace. Available to schools, colleges and other centres from September 2008, the qualification enables learners to plan, conduct and review a project in relation to a topic of their interest. The qualification complements other school work and encourages students to develop the skills required for working life beyond school.
The Diploma has three levels of qualification; Foundation, Higher and Advanced. The Project is available at all of these three levels, enabling learners to develop their ability to learn independently and to broaden their sector knowledge. Set to motivate and challenge 14-19 year olds of all abilities, The Project from EDI offers a nationally accredited qualification both within and also outside of the Diploma at Levels 1, 2 and 3. The Level 1 and Level 2 Projects are worth 10% of a full Level 1 or 2 Award and the Level 3 Extended Project is the equivalent to 15% of a Level 3 Award. The Project can also be taken separately from the Diploma, for example alongside GCSEs or A levels.
Learners undertaking The Project can choose a format and technology appropriate to both the subject and their own needs. For example, written reports, CDs, DVDs, presentations or products are all suitable for assessment. The qualification will enable young people to develop skills in independent research, resulting in improved confidence and attainment.

This is an excellent way of proving their commitment and interest to future employers.”
