Barry College learner Kevin McDaid, an Engineering Apprentice at Dow Corning Engineering, has been recognised for his achievements at work and in College by EEF, the manufacturers organisation in Wales.
At their 58th Awards ceremony in Llandrindod Wells recently, Kevin was awarded Third place for a second year apprentice. There are currently more than 1,000 manufacturing apprentices in Wales and 22 were selected to contest the final stages. Kevin joined the College extended year apprentice training programme in September 2006. His Course Tutor, Phil Rees, said that during his time at the College Kevin was a pleasure to teach and be involved with. His age profile was slightly older than others in his group and this showed in the maturity of his work, Phil added. Kevin obtained his BTEC National Certificate in Operations & Maintenance with Distinctions in all 12 units. He also achieved A* PEO at Level 2 with a further eight units and 6 Key Skills at Level 2 "This truly was a remarkable achievement, which was recognised 2007 in 2007, when we awarded Kevin the outstanding student award for the Department of Engineering Technology," Phil added.
