HAVE YOUR SAY - LIFELONG LEARNING UK CALLS FOR INPUT ON NATIONAL OCCUPATIONAL STANDARDS REVIEW

Input needed for the review of Learning and Development National Occupational Standards

Lifelong Learning UK, the sector skills council responsible for developing the skills of more than 1.2million people working in post-compulsory education, has today launched a review of Learning and Development National Occupational Standards (NOS). The organisation wants to hear from people working in Learning and Development, including assessors and verifiers, to gain feedback on how the new Standards should be shaped. Learning and Development National Occupational Standards are used by a range of organisations involved in the delivery of vocational learning, from colleges and work-based learning providers, to professional and governing bodies, awarding bodies, voluntary and training organisations.   A web-based consultation will take place in June and July 2009, with a number of events planned throughout the UK in the Autumn. Lifelong Learning UK is asking people to register at the Learning and Development NOS website to ensure that the standards are discussed as widely as possible and reflect the requirements of the people they represent. Ivor Jones, Deputy Chief Executive at Lifelong Learning UK, said: “Reviewing National Occupational Standards is a key part of supporting our practitioners in operating to the highest standard. Reskilling, upskilling and transferring skills has never been more important than in the current economic climate, and as such, it’s vital that the critical roles of assessment and verification are fully supported.“We invite everyone working in the delivery of qualifications to the wider workforce to register and have their say in developing a set of standards that are fit for purpose, add value, and crucially, reflect the needs of the sector.” Following the initial consultations, draft national occupational standards will be produced and further consultations will take place in September and October, at which point there will be an opportunity to discuss future qualifications based on the standards. The final national occupational standards will be submitted for approval to the United Kingdom Coordinating Group and will be available before the end of the year. The Standards were last updated by ENTO in 2001 and the suite will be reviewed to ensure they are ‘fit for purpose’ and still reflect the functions for which they were written. 5th FloorSt Andrew’s House
