Almost 3,200 people enjoyed the Daventry Learning Partnership’s Family Fun Day on Saturday despite heavy rain.

An ice skating rink, live music, doggy demos and a scary host of snakes, spiders and creepy crawlies were just some of the attractions at the event which place at Northampton College at Daventry, Badby Road West. It was the second time an event like this has been hosted on the site.

Senior IT Support Analyst and event organiser Nick Devereux said, ‘The Daventry Learning Partnership is about making a positive contribution to the local community. Hosting a fun day that can be enjoyed by all is just one way in which we can celebrate our role and we are incredibly pleased with the success of Saturday’s event. Everybody who attended had an enjoyable time, despite the weather.’

DLP students from the four partner institutions also played a big part in the activities showing off their talents at the event with band and DJ performances, hair and beauty treatments, summer cookery demos and a display of art and crafts.

Cheryl Pickersgill, 40 from Southbrook said, ‘It seems a lot bigger then last time, a lot more people too, which shows the weather has not put anyone off. There’s not many family events like this in Daventry but there needs to be more. It’s great the DLP has put this event on.’ Jason Withall, 38 from the Grange said, ‘Events like this bring people together and it’s especially good for the little ones. We’ve had a great time.’Ebony Barrass, 16 from Southbrook said, ‘The reptiles have been the best bit for us but there’s been lots of  other things to do too. We’ve had a really good time and think it should be on every year.’ Over £1,300 raised from a raffle will be donated to Friends of Danetre Hospital and Riding for the Disabled.
