Music Technology students at City College Brighton and Hove recently performed and recorded tracks for their own compilation CD using a state-of-the-art mixing desk that was used by rock legends U2 and their producer Brian Eno at London’s Olympic Studios. The students’ finished album has been released on the College’s student-run label, Brighton Records, which was set up to help them gain an insight into the music industry and gain valuable experience in an extremely competitive marketplace. It also nurtures and promotes the College’s emerging talent in music composition, recording and production.

Jason Murphy, City College’s Curriculum Team Leader in Music & Journalism, says: "The purpose of the record label is to give the students a stepping stone into the real world of the music industry instead of just being an academic exercise. It enables them to have a taste of what it’s really like to run a record label and have a commercial release of their own."

Student Nina Scerri says: "Working on our tracks for this compilation has been a brilliant aspect of the course. We’ve had to work together as a team and knowing that our music will be on a finished album really helps us to focus and raise our game. The fact that we’re using the same mixing desk as U2 is pretty inspiring too!"
