@bartonpeveril student Isobal Parry has received an ‘Honourable Mention’ in @hardysociety The Thomas Hardy Society Writing Competition 2020. Parry’s entry was one of thousands submitted to the competition but was one of the few selected for an ‘Honourable Mention’ by the judges.

Barton Peveril's Digital Innovator Shortlisted For National Award

@bartonpeveril Learning Support Tutor Laura Stephens @LSBPsupport has been shortlisted for the Pearson Digital Innovator of the Year Award, in the Pearson National Teaching Awards 2020.  Stephens was shortlisted for the award following her work using assistive technology to remove barriers to learning, fostering independence in the classroom and in exams amongst students with additional learning support.  Stephens developed a Learning Support Google Site that offers learners direct online access to a host of strategies recommended by national bodies for Dyslexia and Autistic Spectrum Disorders, as well as the Learning Support Google Classroom that offers teachers training and recommended strategies to support students with declared learning needs.

Barton Peveril Student Becomes Country's Youngest Town Councillor

@BartonPeveril Sixth Form College student Franio Van Wyk has become the United Kingdom’s youngest Town Councillor, after being co-opted for the position at Whiteley Town Council. Van Wyk will begin his role as a Town Councillor on his 18th birthday, on Wednesday 18th March 2020, making him the youngest Town Councillor in the country. Town Councillor’s cannot begin their role until the age of 18.

Barton Peveril Sixth Form College Rank's Highly in National League Tables

@bartonpeveril is the top performing college in the area for value added and students would have to travel 40 miles to find any college where they could make the same progress at A level. This news comes after the Department for Education (DfE) released their annual Performance Tables.   In the DfE Performance Tables 2020, Barton Peveril students achieved an above average progress score compared to all colleges nationally, which places the College as second only to The Sixth Form College, Farnborough in Hampshire.

Barton Peveril Sixth Form College student Grace Wood has been selected for the Association of Colleges (AoC) English National Netball Squad. Wood, who formerly attended Wildern School, competed against hundreds of other students for her place in the 20-person squad.

A record number of Barton Peveril Sixth Form College students are celebrating offers to study at the Universities of Oxford and Cambridge. 22 students have received offers to study at the highly selective Universities, bringing the total number of successful applicants to 84 offers in five years.
