Sexual Abuse – A Provider’s New Responsibilities

March 17 @ 10:00 am - 1:00 pm

From March this year, in line with Ofsted’s transitional inspection arrangements, training providers will be required to evidence how effectively they are meeting requirements to ensure that learners are protected from sexual harassment and abuse. The terms ‘sexual harassment’ or ‘sexual abuse’ occur 27 times in inspectors’ most recent handbook (September 2021) – an indication of the importance placed on this aspect of inspectors’ work.

Ofsted expect providers to be responsive to the requirements of “Keeping Children safe in Education” (September 2001) and to the findings in its “Review of sexual abuse in schools and colleges” (June 2021).    Ofsted also expects providers to be alert to the potential for sexual harassment to which adult learners may be at risk. Our presenters will ensure this is discussed during the session

“It could happen here” Ofsted’s June review recommends that leaders act on the assumption that sexual harassment is affecting their learners and take a whole-organisation approach by creating a culture where sexual harassment is not tolerated.

This seminar will be of interest to leaders, safeguarding leads, governors and advisory board members. The seminar will offer guidance on creating and maintaining a whole-organisation culture through:

  • high-quality staff training
  • relevant curriculum content
  • comprehensive policy and procedure content

…thus ensuring that learners can confidently report abuse, knowing their concerns will be treated seriously.
