From education to employment

Neil Bates awarded Fellowship of the City & Guilds of London Institute

Neil Bates, head of Essex-based Prospects Learning Foundation, has been awarded a Fellowship of the City & Guilds of London Institute (FCGI), its highest honour.

The former chairman of the Association of Employment and Learning Providers (AELP) joins a group of fewer than 750 people to have achieved the status. His award comes as Prospects, an education and skills charity, launches a new Ā£6.3 million campus to offer up to 300 young people vocational qualifications in construction, plumbing, carpentry, hair and beauty and motor vehicle maintenance.

Bates said: ā€œThe awarding of this fellowship now has come as a huge surprise to me. I have dedicated all of my working life to education, employment and skills training and I am greatly honoured by having my work recognised by the City & Guilds London Institute.ā€

City & Guilds awarded its first fellowship in 1882. Until 1990 the award was exclusive to holders of the Associateship (ACGI), namely engineering graduates from the City & Guilds College, London. But now it is open to all those who have made outstanding achievements in sectors and activities relevant to the awarding bodyā€™s work.
