Ofsted to manage inspectors in-house

Ofsted has said it will manage all FE and school inspectors in-house from September 2015 to give it more control over their selection, training and quality assurance.

The move comes as its current contracts with Inspection Service Providers (ISPs) CfBT, Serco and Tribal are due to expire next year after being in place since 2009.

Ofsted added that additional inspectors from outside its organisation, which are currently contracted through ISPs, will continue to play a significant part in its future activities.

Nick Jackson, Ofsted’s director of corporate services, said: “For the last five years our ISPs have delivered a successful and professional inspection programme for Ofsted.

“With the conclusion of these contracts the time was right to look again at how Ofsted can best deliver a service that is both efficient and flexible. We are confident that this is the right model.”
