From education to employment

Season’s Greetings from the Edge Foundation

Season’s greetings and best wishes for the New Year to all our friends and partners. We’d like to thank you for your generous support and enthusiasm this year, helping us champion the importance and benefits of technical, practical and vocational learning.

2012 has been an exciting year with many great developments, including the launch of our new Six Steps for Change; our first ever Research Conference; gaining an insight into employers’ perspectives at the Edge Annual Lecture and another immensely successful VQ Day.

Our projects have also thrived this year, with the opening of the Edge Hotel School, the Government’s approval of 15 new UTCs and the opening of 15 new Studio Schools.

We would also like to send many congratulations to Bishop Burton College who recently won the prestigious Association of Colleges (AoC) Beacon Award for Practical Teaching and Practical Learning, sponsored by Edge.

The Edge Foundation aims to strengthen the evidence base for what works and seek out best practice; we also celebrate the success of those who follow vocational routes and showcase vocational excellence.

Working in partnership with others who share our vision, we will continue to support innovation, practical demonstration projects and exciting new institutions and activities with high quality technical, practical and vocational learning at their heart.

Finally, Edge will ensure that the learning from these is widely disseminated, all with the aim of ensuring young people have the best opportunities and that the UK has the skills that the future economy needs.

In 2013 Edge will continue to invest in the projects, partnerships and research that have the greatest impact on the UK’s technical, practical and vocational teaching and learning.

To ensure future success, we encourage you to get involved and support our work by:

  • Supporting our ‘Six Steps for Change’

  • Celebrating VQ Day in your region and local area on 5th June 2013

  • Using our research to drive the policy agenda

  • Providing support and sponsorship to our projects

  • Following us on Facebook and Twitter and using our resources on Flickr and YouTube

Bishop Burton College was selected as winner of the AoC Beacon Award for the way it has brought together the needs of the regional agriculture industry with providing its learners with employability and enterprise skills.
