Top Ten Negotiation Skills Tips for Teachers and #FE Managers

In the seventh episode of his podcast Top Ten Tips for Teachers and FE Managers, Arnie Skelton discusses NEGOTIATION SKILLS.

This is part 1 of a 2-part podcast. In this week’s podcast Arnie covers the topic of Negotiation Skills.

In it Arnie offers his definition of negotiation, and how it differs from haggling!

He discusses the importance of variables, and how to move through three key positions in your negotiation strategy by exchanging variables: “if you can offer me X on variable A, then I can offer you Z on variable B.”

Though intended primarily for managers who may have to negotiate, it contains useful principles for reaching agreement between any two parties – which might include working with students, and of course, be helpful for students themselves.

Arnie has spent the last 30 years working in a wide range of organisations, and all his tips are totally practical, and can be implemented by anyone, any time, at no financial cost.
