Staff to strike at 10 colleges tomorrow

Staff at 10 English colleges will be walking out tomorrow in their fight for fair pay. The strike is the first of up to 10 days of walk outs in a wave of industrial action over pay. University and College Union (UCU) members at five of the 10 colleges will also be out on Wednesday, in a two day strike. Pickets will take place at all affected institutions from 8am.

UK university staff to ballot in October over pay and pensions

The University and College Union (@UCU) has today (Wednesday) confirmed that strike ballots will open at UK universities on Monday 18 October in rows over USS pensions and pay, unsafe workloads, casualisation and equality failings.

Climate Learning Month teaching materials launched in run up to COP 26

Education unions and campaign groups have today (Thursday) launched a set of downloadable climate and sustainability teaching resources for schools, colleges and universities in support of their joint Climate Learning Month initiative taking place from October 2021. The materials have been launched by the University and College Union (UCU), National Education Union (NEU), Educational Institute of Scotland (EIS), National Union of Students (NUS), Teach the Future and SOS-UK in the run-up to COP 26 in November.

Union responds to trustee and Universities UK agreeing to huge staff pension cuts

Responding to Universities UK’s (@UUKIntl) announcement that cuts to the pensions of university staff will go ahead after agreement of trustee, UCU general secretary Jo Grady, said:

Lecturers warn employers against breaching performance rights, agreements for re-use of recordings should last no more than one year.
