The behaviour of pupils in class has been proven to have a direct link to their educational outcomes. Here, Lyn Hamblin, Supply Desk Regional Director and former Leader of Student Personal Development and Wellbeing at St Albans Girls’ School, discusses the importance of helping children build their emotional intelligence skills as part of teachers’ approach to behaviour management:
What issues are teachers facing in terms of their mental health? Teachers are currently facing high levels of stress, resulting in behavioural, psychological and physical symptoms. Behavioural impacts cause teachers to be more prone to procrastination and mood swings, which may affect their teaching ability.
With more than 80% of teachers considering leaving the profession due to workload pressure (according to the National Education Union (NEU)), reducing stress and encouraging greater work-life balance is key. Education recruiter justteachers has done just that with the launch of Flexi – a new job share option in which two teachers share a full-time role, enabling them to reduce their workload and improve their wellbeing, and consequently assisting schools in retaining talent long-term.
Simon Adams, Regional Director for Teach In, specialists in matching school staffing needs with the best available teachers and teaching assistants using creative recruitment solutions, shares his advice on how to succeed in planning and running an observation lesson, as part of the recruitment process.
