Apprenticeships set to grow and evolve

In the summer budget the Chancellor made two very significant announcements. The first was the introduction of a levy on large businesses to help fund apprenticeship growth. For me, this solves the mystery of how the government is going to pay for the increase in the number of apprenticeships from 2 million in the last parliament to 3 million in this new one.

Apprenticeships are a hot topic in the lead-up to the general election. The chancellor recently announced a 20 per cent increase in the minimum wage for apprentices and there is interest from all parties in this form of training as a means of bridging the UK's skills gap.

Caring Approach to Training

Bennetts Castle Care Home, of Dagenham, has received praise at the Learning at Work Day event for its progressive training policies. The event was run by the Campaign for Learning and was attended by members of the business community and Phil Hope, Minister for Adult Skills.
