New fee subsidy scheme launched for FE teachers

LSIS has launched an additional fee support scheme for FE teachers of English and maths for the 2012/13 academic year.

The new basic English and maths FE Teacher Training Awards scheme provides up to £500 for up to 3,000 trainees. The subsidy runs in parallel to the existing ITT fee award, although trainees may only apply for one scheme.

Rob Wye, chief executive of LSIS, said: “The ITT Fee Awards and the basic English and maths Teacher Training Awards are one way of ensuring that professionals with the right skills and expertise are able to improve the quality of teaching and learning in the further education and skills sector.

“Teachers in further education are shaping the future workforce of every sector in the English economy and LSIS is committed to supporting the pursuit of excellence in teaching in learning.”
