Top chef Hywel Jones to take over The Classroom at Cardiff and Vale College – for one night only

Hywel Jones, Executive Chef at Lucknam Park Hotel will join Cardiff and Vale College’s The Classroom restaurant for a one-night only takeover of the restaurant on 26th May.

Hywel will run a pop-up restaurant in the College’s fifth floor restaurant at its City Centre Campus on Dumballs Road, which has views across Cardiff. It will represent an exclusive opportunity to taste a unique menu from a Michelin-starred chef.

“I started my career in Cardiff back in 1998, studying at Colchester Avenue College and working at Le Cassoulet in Canton, so I’m extremely excited to return to the Capital to cook once again,” Hywel said. “Taking over the kitchens of Y Dosbarth, The Classroom, for an evening will give me the opportunity to share a little bit of what I have learnt over the years with the students of Cardiff and Vale College who are embarking on their own exciting career journeys.

“Along with the students and a few key team members from Lucknam Park we will be serving a few of our signature dishes that have become favourites at The Park restaurant and we look forward to sharing them with you.”

Hywel has worked with David Nichols at the Royal Garden before moving on to work as Chef de Partie in two Michelin 3-star establishments: Chez Nico at 90 and Marco Pierre White. He then furthered his skills as junior Sous Chef at Michelin starred Le Soufflé. He went on to earn his first Michelin star at Foliage restaurant at Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park where he was Head Chef for five years.

In 2004 Hywel joined Lucknam Park Hotel and Spa and in 2006 was awarded a Michelin star. Awarded Hotel Chef of the Year at the 2007 Hotel Catey Awards, Hywel has created superb menus in both the Michelin starred restaurant The Park and more recently in The Brasserie.
