Art & Design Students Unleash Talent in Printmaking Project; Lecturer Gets Accepted for Royal Academy Summer Show

Six students on the NCFE Portfolio Preparation L2 Certificate in Art & Design at Waltham Forest College, unleashed their talent in a final presentation held at the Winns Gallery in Lloyds Park.

The presentation was based on a printmaking project entitled ‘Pic’n Mix’ – where students had to created animal-human hybrid characters by picking and mixing-up various ‘found images’ from magazines, internet etc. 

Students worked from a biological model interpreting their vision using a wide range of mixed-media which included – ‘found materials’, textures and patterns. Drawings were made from the collages and characters selected to form the basis of the final intaglio print. A suggested scenario or narrative was also created by the figures having different postures and the placing of the characters.

They presented their initial response to the theme, the development of their ideas and the final work at the Winns Gallery on Friday 17 June.

Students also celebrated Art & Design Lecturer, Sharon Drew, whose art designs have been accepted into the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition this year.

She said: “I am delighted! It is a huge privilege to be showing two paintings in this year’s RA Summer Exhibition.  It is a unique situation where the work of unknown, emerging and established artists has been selected to exhibit alongside some of the most celebrated artists such as Tracey Emin and David Hockney.”
