South Essex College summer bash a hit with prospective students

South Essex College put on a totally tropical beach event at Adventure Island for their new students.

The College with campuses in Southend, Basildon and Thurrock put on the summer party for all applicants due to start in September 2016.

Guests were treated to a fun filled day at the seafront theme park which included free wristbands allowing them on all the rides. They also received food and freebies plus the chance to win over £500 worth of prizes by taking part in the treasure hunt competition.

Callum Oxlee, 16 from Pitsea, will be attending the College in September to study Level 3 Print Media and Journalism. He won the terrific treasure prize including an iPad and Beats by Dre headphones. He said: “It’s been a great day with a fun atmosphere. It’s a an excellent idea to get everyone together before College starts.”

Dance students from the College entertain applicants with flash mob performances, they also entered into a spectacular dance off with the party’s resident samba band, Brazil Arte.

Music students took to the beach stage to play to the crowds. Ben Henderson amused the audience with his unique drumming set while BLAB, a upcoming band made up of Level 3 Music Technology students, played tracks from their new EP, Everything is everyone else’s fault.

Applicants Charlie Dowman from Tilbury and Hannah Oldfield from Wickford met each other for the first time at the event. They matched their brightly coloured wristbands to get fantastic freebies at the Tiki hut, an activity put on by the College to encourage new applicants to talk to different people. Hannah said: “We didn’t know each other before, this day has been a good way to make new friends.”

Principal and Chief Executive of the College, Angela O’Donoghue CBE, said: “What a brilliant day! The sun shone and the applicants had lots of fun, we look forward to welcoming them all to South Essex College in the Autumn.”
