From education to employment

Learn about SGS Berkeley Green University Technical College at Open Event

Visitors can discover the vast array of learning and career opportunities coming to the SGS Berkeley Green University Technical College (UTC), Saturday 17 September 10:00 – 13:00, with its first open event of the academic year.

The whole community is invited to the event, where visitors can participate in a fun range of activities, speak with staff about courses and life at the UTC, and meet representatives from industry organisations. There will also be an opportunity to tour the site and hear about future developments.

Previous events have been hugely popular, so interested learners are encouraged to attend this event in order to apply early and secure a guaranteed space. For its first year, learner numbers at the UTC will be limited to just 140.

The UTC, which is due to open September 2017, will offer a new kind of learning experience, where students can turn their passion for science and engineering into a dream career.

With plans to offer some of the best training facilities in the country for the science, technology, mathematics and engineering industries, the UTC has received glowing praise and full support from multiple local businesses. Because of these relationships, students will get to participate in projects with the UTC’s employer partners in real working environments, where they can apply their technical skills and creative thinking.

In addition to Berkeley’s open event, Bristol Technology and Engineering Academy (BTEA), will also be holding an open event the week before, 10 September, 10:00 – 13:00. BTEA, which opened in September 2013, is also a UTC, situated in Stoke Gifford just north of Bristol.

Chair of UTC Governors, Sara-Jane Watkins comments: “This is a terrific opportunity for people to learn about the exciting opportunities only available at UTCs. Our previous open events have been very popular and visitors have found them to be highly beneficial. We look forward to welcoming many more visitors through our doors, Saturday 17 September.”
