From education to employment

Bradford College is Armed Forces Friendly

Bradford College has formally pledged to do all it can to support Armed Forces personnel and their families.

At a ceremony at the college’s Trinity Green campus, college boss David Harwood signed the Armed Forces Covenant alongside Colonel Mike Butterwick, Deputy Commander of the Yorkshire-based  4th Infantry Brigade and watched by Councillor Joanne Dodds from Bradford Council.

The covenant represents a promise by the nation that those who serve or have served, and their families, are treated fairly. Every local authority in Great Britain has signed it, as have hundreds of businesses, charities and other organisations.

In signing up, the college has vowed to be Armed Forces-friendly. That involves everything from helping veterans, young and old, gain education, training and employment to actively participating in Armed Forces Day.

“Bradford College is proud to sign the covenant and strengthen the relationship we already have with the Armed Forces,” said David Harwood, Principal of Further Education at Bradford College.

“It is a great opportunity for the college to work with the Armed Forces to give them the opportunity to learn technical and vocational skills that can set them up for the future.”

Col Butterwick said: “We are absolutely delighted Bradford College has agreed to sign the covenant and show their commitment to respecting and supporting the Armed Forces.

“It is to everyone’s mutual benefit to recognise the value that our service personnel bring to the community.

“I am really looking forward to looking at areas where we can work together over the coming years.”

Bradford College already has strong links with the military, not least through its Public Services Department which offers courses at BTEC and degree level for those interested in progressing to a career in the Armed Forces, Police, Fire, Prison and Ambulance Services.
