From education to employment

A NEW SERIES OF WEBINARS CHALLENGE FE LEADERS TO THINK BIG AND STOP OBSSESSING ABOUT THE DETAIL

The Education and Training Foundation (ETF) have commissioned the Sussex Council of Training Providers (SCTP) to deliver a series of Future Leadership webinars for the FE and skills sector. The webinars explore the hot topics in the sector and how education leaders – and emerging leaders – can apply the latest research and practice into their own work. Each interactive webinar aims to motivate leaders to examine the cultures and behaviours within their organisations – thinking hard about what characteristics and visions are needed for the next generation of work-based learning & FE. Subjects being discussed range from the impact on leadership of the Apprenticeship reforms to principles of change management, working with LEPs and schools and what the next 10 years will look like. The Future Leadership webinar series connects FE leaders and management with guest speakers within and from outside the sector to stimulate and encourage debate around key issues. Experts from the FE and skills sector such as Mark Dawe, Chief Executive of AELP, Dr Steve Reeve, from the University of Brighton’s Change Management programme, and Martin Doel, FETL Professor of Further Education at the Institute of Education, share their experiences of the challenges and opportunities currently facing leaders. Leadership experts from the private sector are also joining the webinars as guest speakers to bring their ideas and insights. Nikki Gatenby, the multi-award winning MD of marketing firm Propellernet and Louise Doyle, Client Services Director of software company Mesma, will be sharing their insights on staff motivation, purpose and the new commercial marketplaces for Apprenticeship delivery. What are the secrets behind an effective, motivated and commercially aware FE and skills workforce? “These webinars are deliberately focused on strategic thinking, big ideas and the future”, says Richard Freeman, education leadership consultant and chair of the webinars. “The SCTP Leadership Webinars allow FE leaders and aspiring leaders, wherever they are within their working day, to access critical debate and information as well as a direct line to ask the experts questions.” “The advantage of the webinar is that it allows for a more intense focus on your subject.” says recent guest speaker Dr Carol Azumah Dennis, Lecturer in Education, University of Hull. “Participants write their questions while you are presenting and so feedback is explicit and instant. This makes it possible to directly address what you know your participants are interested in rather than going into one of your own pet tangents.” There are two upcoming webinars in November: The business of learning vs the learning business: leading in an FE marketplace 11am – 12pm, 18th November And Managing change, when change is all we have 11am – 12pm, 1st December The full webinar series can be accessed via The Education and Training Foundation website.
