From education to employment

London hotels showcase Uxbridge College Art

Two prestigious London hotels have purchased artwork by Uxbridge College students to put on display in their buildings. Lancaster London and sister hotel K West bought a number of pieces by Art & Design students following an exhibition of their work at the four-star Lancaster in West London.

The purchases follow the event at the hotel, which featured over 40 pieces of artwork ranging from small A4 sets to large A0 pieces including paintings, prints and photographic work. Students who sold their work included Chloe Hill, pictured.

The pieces were produced on the basis of a brief from the Lancaster, with students from the UAL Level 3 Diploma & Extended Diploma in Art & Design visiting the hotel and wider area to meet staff, gain inspiration and research their projects.

David Storer, Art & Design Lecturer, said: “This was an amazing opportunity for our students and Uxbridge College was delighted to be approached by the Lancaster to create this inspiring exhibition.”

Some of the students’ pieces were also chosen to feature in the Lancaster Hotel’s ARTea afternoon tea as edible treats, which is served in a painter’s box and includes miniature edible canvasses displayed on easels.

Lancaster London prides itself on nurturing young talent. In 2014, Lancaster London became heavily involved with youth charity, Vital Regeneration. The hotel ran a programme enabling less advantaged young people develop skills and break into the hospitality industry. Similarly, the hotel constantly seeks to offer a platform to young creatives and help students showcase their work to a wider audience, reflected in its recent partnership with the Uxbridge College.
