Regional Success For Foundation Learning Team

A football team comprised of students on a foundation learning course at Weston College has qualified for the national finals of the Association of Colleges Ability Counts league.

The qualifying event, at the University of St Mark and St John in Plymouth, saw the Weston College team take on Bridgwater and Taunton College, and South Devon College to defend their South West champion status, which they earned at the tournament last year.

Weston College finished the tournament unbeaten, scoring nine goals and conceding just three across four matches.

The team will now go on to compete against teams from across the country at the national finals in April next year.

Nick Chadwick, Lecturer in Foundation Learning, said: “This fantastic result shows the commitment and teamwork of the players and staff.

“To have our foundation learning team represent the South West at the national cup finals for the second consecutive year is an exceptional achievement and a real testament to their hard work and training.

“We are extremely proud of the whole team.”

The Ability Counts football tournament highlights the inclusivity and diversity which football offers, encouraging all abilities to take part.
