From education to employment

New Year – New Career

To mark the new year, Learning and Work Institute is launching a brand-new Career Review website. A Career Review is broad careers guidance which aims to support people to make the most of employment opportunities and skills development at all stages of their lives.

The new website is there to help people progress in work and for employers, advisors, researchers and training providers to support more people to take up Career Reviews. It includes key information, a bank of useful resources and signposting to providers of career reviews.

The launch of the website follows on from a successful trial run by Learning and Work Institute during which more than 3,000 people benefited from a Career Review.

Stephen Evans, Chief Executive of Learning and Work Institute said: “The new year is a great time to start thinking about your next career move.

“Longer working lives, and a rapidly changing jobs market make it more important than ever that people are able to take stock of their careers and think about future opportunities and career changes. This is also vital to helping employers meet their future skills needs and our economy to grow.

“Our trials of Career Reviews for more than 3,000 adults showed how popular and effective they could be. One in three people were motivated to find work, change career or take up learning, and one in three took action as a result of the review.

“Our new website will support the expansion of Career Reviews and give adults access to the good quality and regular careers advice they need to help them get on in life and work. Careers advice can’t just be something that happens at school. Our working lives are changing, with many of us choosing to stay in work longer, change career, get back into work after a break or set up a business.

“With big changes coming in 2017, including the start of the Brexit process so it has never been more important to upskill our workforce to compete in a challenging economic climate.

“Whatever you decide to do, a Career Review can be tailored to your life, goals and aspirations. Our new year message to people is, why not take up a Career Review and realise your potential to progress in work.”
