Redcar & Cleveland College Join In World Book Day Celebrations To Raise Money For Local Charity

Staff and students at a TEESSIDE college have pulled out costumes of their favourite book characters to celebrate World Book Day, helping to raise money for a local charity in the process.

Students at Redcar & Cleveland College created some impressive looks to honour their favourite literary characters, from superheroes to Harry Potter, on the 20th anniversary of World Book Day.

A number of fun activities took place around the college to celebrate the day, including book sales and quiz competitions.

All the money raised from activities throughout the day is set to be donated to Middlesbrough Powerchair Football Club.

Alys Tregear, Director of Student Support at Redcar & Cleveland College, hailed the day as a great celebration of literary heroes.

Alys said: “We have had a fantastic day around college celebrating the 20th anniversary of World Book Day.

“There were some impressive outfits put together by students for the day showing off their love of all forms of literature, including comics, fiction and non-fiction.

“Reading is an important part of life and education and we encourage our students to read as much as possible, so to see so many people take part has been brilliant.

“And whilst it’s been great to celebrate World Book day, being able to raise funds for an important local charity alongside this has topped the day off perfectly.”

World Book Day is a celebration of authors, illustrators, books and most importantly it’s a celebration of reading. It’s the biggest celebration of its kind, designated by UNESCO as a worldwide celebration of books and reading, and marked in over 100 countries all over the world.
