From education to employment

World Maritime University goes live with Tribal Campus solution

Tribal Group has successfully launched a new tailored student management system for the World Maritime University (WMU) in Malmö, Sweden.

The system was specifically designed for the postgraduate university which was founded by the International Maritime Organization (IMO), a specialised agency of the United Nations. It will help the institution manage how it communicates with current and prospective students, from their initial enquiry through the duration of their studies.

The tailored Tribal Campus student management solution includes integration with the Moodle learning platform and a dynamic self-service recruitment tool, to transform student management at the university, which accepts approximately 400 enrolments per annum in programmes specific to the maritime sector.

Tribal commenced the development of the system in September 2016, and the solution, tailored to WMU’s specific student management requirements, successfully went live in January 2017.

World Maritime University’s Assistant Registrar, Peter Marriott, said: “We were looking for an updated student management system that could meet our unique requirements and were delighted that Tribal could deliver one on-time and under budget. Thanks to the collaborative and organised process of the Tribal Campus team, we are confident that this solution will provide an efficient and effective SMS for the university.”

Jon Baldwin, Managing Director of Tribal’s Higher Education group, said: “Sweden is a relatively new market for us but we were delighted to help the World Maritime University rethink how it interacts with its students. We look forward to continuing our relationship and help this world-class institution go from strength to strength.”

Tribal Campus, including Tribal PEPi (student management), Moodle Integration and Delta Portal (self-service recruitment), was chosen as the optimum solution for WMU. Tribal Campus is an innovative cloud solution that can virtualise learning platforms and bring organisations to the cloud, an environment commonly used and understood by students.

Using both Campus and PEPi services means students have immediate access to Tribal Forums if they are enrolled through Tribal PEPi, reducing the need to have multiple sign-up requests for a service that is available from one platform. Tribal Delta is a powerful student and partner self-service tool to help attract interest in courses, grow direct recruitment capacity and manage student administration needs.
