Boris Johnson talks politics with Uxbridge College students

Foreign Secretary and local MP Boris Johnson met Uxbridge College students to discuss subjects including Brexit, plans for a third Runway at Heathrow, and the huge potential for Global Britain and our strong presence on the world stage.

These and numerous other matters were covered during a lively visit by the Secretary of State for Foreign & Commonwealth Affairs and MP for Uxbridge and South Ruislip, who gave a talk and answered questions from the AS and A2 Politics and History students.

During the Q&A session, questions covered subjects including how much time the MP spent in his constituency, whether he still opposed a third runway at Heathrow and if he supported plans for the controversial rail link HS2 which will run through Hillingdon borough. Student views to a state visit by Trump were met with his point about the importance of good relations with the US, one of our closest allies.

Politics student Marcus Davenport said: “It was a great experience to have Boris Johnson here and he gave some really interesting answers to our question. I’m also glad he restated his opposition to the Third Runway at Heathrow as this is such an important local issue.”

Amanda Washbrook, Head of the Academy, the department at Uxbridge College which teaches A-levels, GCSEs and vocational science, said: “It was very generous of Boris Johnson to give up his time to speak to our students today. It’s a big deal if you’re an A Level politics or history student to have a visit from the Foreign Secretary, and it’s great for them to hear from someone with such long-standing political experience, including as Mayor of London.”
