From education to employment

Redcoats Invited to Recruitment Day at Sussex Coast College

Last Wednesday, one of the nation’s favourite holiday camps, Butlin’s, visited Sussex Coast College Hastings to talk about potential career opportunities with the company.

Butlin’s, which opened its first site over 80 years ago, now has three camps in England and is part of the Sunday Times top 25 of best big companies to work for. Staff members from the Bognor Regis camp came to give students an insight into the business and tell them about careers with the company, famous for their Redcoat entertainers.

Students studying Travel and Tourism, Business, and Hospitality and Catering, joined Butlin’s team members from HR, marketing, catering, and entertainment to hear about the company’s growth over the past 80 years, and the career opportunities in their hotels, bars, restaurants, beauty salons, support services and as a Redcoat entertainer.

Adam Holt, Travel and Tourism and Cabin Crew lecturer, said: “We had such a great day with the Butlin’s team. They have a really inspiring ethos and I think their presentation may have been an eye opening experience for the students. A number of students will be undertaking work experience with the Bognor Regis site in the coming weeks, and at least a dozen of students are seriously considering applying for a number of the jobs on offer.”

Alexandra Syrotiuk, Curriculum Area Manager for Travel and Business, said: “It was fantastic that the Butlin’s team could spend a whole day with us to come and give the students a taste of what it is like to work for a large and established organisation.

We have a strong emphasis on linking our courses to the real world, and hosting events like this one allows students to enhance their employability, and this event gave students from across the college the opportunity to find out about and apply for jobs in their chosen career industries.”
