Cardiff and Vale College AAT students make their skills count in Accountancy competition finals

A team from Cardiff and Vale College has come second in the Skills Competition Wales Accountancy contest finals.

AAT Accountancy students Jonas Bernardo, Abigail Hampton and Joseph Harvey managed to see off teams from five other Welsh colleges to come second.

Competitors were given a series of tasks including processing sales invoices and credit notes, completing books of prime entry, general ledger and subsidiary ledger accounts and create a PowerPoint presentation.

Mark Morgan, an AAT Lecturer at CAVC, said: “The team did fantastically well in coming second in this competition. What is all the more remarkable about it is that all of the other colleges put up two or three teams and we only had the one – and they came second which is an excellent achievement.”

Student Abigail Hampton said: “I was nervous – we had only found out about the competition the day before so I didn’t have a clue what to expect!

“The competition was called ‘A Day in the Office’ and we had to do all the things we would have to do in a normal working day for an accountant. We processed invoices, did accounts and then give a presentation.

“I didn’t think we would get anywhere so I was very impressed that we came second.”
