We’re pleased to launch the new Social care: a rewarding career toolkit this Learning at Work week to promote the rewards and tackle common misconceptions about working in adult social care.
With growing demand for social care services, more needs to be done to build attractive career pathways in the sector, to attract more of the right people and improve retention rates.
The toolkit can be used by employers, training providers and employment professionals to promote the wide range of careers available and help more people understand how they can develop and progress in social care.
Stephen Evans, chief executive at Learning and Work Institute, which runs Ambition London, said:
“We are all going to have to rely on health and social care services in some way during our lives and all of us expect the highest quality services for our loved ones. Not only is this vital sector under enormous pressure financially, but shortages in skilled workers are set to get worse as we rely less on migrants post-Brexit unless urgent action is taken. That’s why we’re proud to be working with partners to promote the excellent career opportunities available in social care and help those who work with jobseekers to enter and progress in the profession.”
It was developed as part of a project with Ambition London, funded by JP Morgan Chase Foundation, to develop new resources to help alleviate London’s social care skills shortages. The National Skills Academy for Health also developed a toolkit about the health sector.
