FORMER STUDENT HONOURED FOR TV JOURNALISM

A former apprentice from City of Wolverhampton College has been named one of the BBC’s rising stars.

Rob West, who studied for his BBC journalism apprenticeship through the college, was named BBC Best Newcomer at the Ruby Awards, which were held at New Broadcasting House in May.

He was presented with his award by newsreader Hew Edwards, after impressing judges with a documentary made on the 10th anniversary of the Suffolk Prostitute murders.

Rob, who now works as a TV journalist for BBC Look East, said: “It was great to win and felt cracking. I’ve put a lot of hours into my work over the past year and it was great to see that people are finding the stories I uncover interesting.”

City of Wolverhampton College has been working with the BBC to deliver journalism training since 2014. To find out more about studying journalism at the college click here.
