Student Fashion on the Catwalk

Art & Design students from Sussex Downs College hold their end of year show at Towner Art Gallery, Eastbourne

The showcase event signalled the end of a successful course for creative arts students at the college. The show featured the work of students studying UAL Foundation Diploma in Art & Design, year 2 BTEC Extended Diploma in Art & Design and first year BTEC Art & Design.

The catwalk included a collection based around graffiti by second year BTEC Art & Design student and 2016 Great British Sewing Bee finalist, Jade Earley. She says, “Some people see graffiti as vandalism and some see it as amazing art. I mainly focused on colour and texture for my collection as I feel that they represent graffiti the most.”

Fiona Henderson, Interim Faculty Director of Creative & Digital Studies at Sussex Downs College, says, “Towner Gallery was the perfect setting to show off the creative talent of our Fashion and Creative Arts students. They have been working hard, not only on their designs, but on the planning and organising of this fantastic Fashion showcase for 2017. What a great experience for the students, and one they will take with them into Higher Education and the industry. This evening has emitted flair and creativity, and we are so proud of the effort put in by all the students and staff. The quality and professionalism of the evening, and the work put in to achieve this, puts the students thoroughly in the limelight, showcasing our next generation of creatives.”
