COLLEGE SHORTLISTED FOR NATIONAL AWARD

City of Wolverhampton College is celebrating after being shortlisted for a national award for the second year running for the way it inspires and prepares young people for the world of work.

The college has been nominated for the AoC Beacon Award for Careers Education and Guidance after impressing judges with its Student Hub.

In the last year the hub has provided advice and guidance to more than 2000 young people, with students able to access financial support, additional learning support and counselling all from one collaborative centre.

By providing help and support from a single, easily accessible centre, the college has seen more students matched to a career path right for them and move on to further education or jobs. Not only that, this year 250 students have enhanced their studies by going on placements abroad.

Locally, the college has worked with 37 secondary schools across the region to provide advice on career routes, and also hosted a skills show that was attended by more than 1250 young people.

Principal Claire Boliver said: “High quality advice and guidance is essential to help young people make informed decisions about their future.

“I’m delighted that we have been shortlisted for this award for a second time, which is recognition of the outstanding support we provide to learners throughout their learning journey.”

The AoC Beacon Awards, launched in 1994, capture and celebrate the best and most innovative practice among UK further education colleges.
