Reggie makes his television debut

Eccles Sixth Form College’s resident chameleon, Reggie, will make his television debut on Channel 4’s Extreme Cake Makers tonight.

The Salford college, who launched their fantastic, brand new outdoor animal facilities last summer, have an upcoming celebrity in their midst. Reggie the chameleon, a firm favourite with staff and students at the college, is set to become one of the stars of the hit Channel 4 show, which will air at 17.30 today.

Celebrity cake maker, Molly Robbins, who is a self-confessed animal lover, recreated Reggie in cake form for the programme and the creation was presented at the college’s official animal centre launch last July.

Jennifer Darby, Animal Care Teacher at Eccles Sixth Form College said: “As part of the launch for our fantastic animal facilities, we decided to commission a cake from Molly’s Creative Cakes and invite her to come and help with the grand opening of our animal centre last summer.

“We needed the cake to be striking and as Reggie is a firm favourite here at Eccles, we decided that he would be a fantastic mascot and a colourful challenge for Molly.”

The college prides itself on its fantastic animal facilities and the extensive range of species that live here. Their outdoor centre is home to everything from emus to racoon dogs, capybara and marmosets, with their indoor facilities housing a range of reptiles, invertebrates and amphibians – including Reggie.

Guests at the grand opening were given front row seats to filming for the show as a TV crew were there to record exclusive footage for the episode.

The cake was not only unveiled at the launch but raffled off for local charity Hope View Sensory Farm, with the money going towards helping them provide a space for people who live with dementia or Alzheimer’s.

As well as presenting her colourful creation, Molly cut the ceremonial ribbon, officially opening the centre which facilitates the college’s range of animal and equine courses and qualifications.
