From education to employment

Former student is ‘game’ for success

Simran Whithan, a former Tameside College student, is at the heart of the gaming community in Manchester thanks to his unique events.

Simran Whitham, who studied IT and animation and games design at the college, now runs ‘Manchester Gamers Unite’, a non-profit networking organisation which connects gamers to developers.

Manchester Gamers Unite hosts monthly events for over 100 enthusiasts where new ideas are shared and visitors can chat with developers from big name games companies such as Sony and Ubisoft.

Simran is also a co-founder of Tri-Heart Interactive, a games development studio which has been working on its first release for the last five months.

Simran, said: “The gamer’s night’s that myself and my friend host are fantastic. Everyone is relaxed and is able to show off their new ideas and talents in a laid back environment. It’s not a chore because I love doing it so much.

In terms of developing my skills, studying at the college helped me find out what it was that I really wanted to do. I’ve always wanted to work within the video games industry from the age of five and my teacher at the time, who I have nothing but the highest praise and respect for, played a truly huge part in helping me forge the career I have today.”
