WCG welcomed special guest  Acting Principal Amos Thema from Capricorn College TVET in Polokwane, South Africa on 26 February for a week long visit to several colleges within the WCG Group in Warwickshire and Worcestershire.

The visit was part of a Senior Leadership Team Exchange programme, an initiative funded by the British Council and the South African Department of Higher Education and Training. It’s aim is to enable colleges to meet together, exchange ideas and develop a long lasting partnership that brings mutual benefits to both countries.

During his time with WCG, Amos was interested in learning about the organisation's approach to curriculum development and quality management, as well as shared knowledge and developments within employer partnerships with local and national businesses.

As part of the visit, Amos was also invited to a tour by Steve West, Head of Department Work Based Learning JLR Apprenticeship Programmes at the Jaguar Land Rover Plant in Whitley, Coventry.

Whitley Plant is the Headquarters of JLR and one of the engineering centres of Jaguar Land Rover.  The facility is a fully integrated design, research and development centre and is used for the design and development of Jaguar and Land Rover vehicles.

College director for Pershore & Malvern Hills and Group VP for Commercial & International Sharon Bell who visited Capricorn College in South Africa last year said:

“Overall, the visit was deemed a great success and was an excellent opportunity to show off our facilities within several of our seven colleges first hand. We were able to demonstrate our strength of expertise and the latest developments in everything from Countryside Management, Agri-Tech and Equine to pioneering projects in Engineering and Motor Vehicle Industries.

“We look forward to progressing our partnerships and discussing how we can benefit from collaborating with each other in the future.”

Amos Thema, Acting Principal for Capricorn College TVET, said:

“I would like to thank my hosts at WCG for the warm welcome they have shown me and for providing me a week packed full of activities and new opportunities.

“This visit has demonstrated the many prospects for a possible future partnership between our two organisations, exploring new ways of developing our curriculum that supports the modern international economy.”
