The Marketing team at Borders College are celebrating taking home the Bronze title for Internal Communications at the College Development Network’s 20th Marketing Awards, this year held at Drygate Brewery in Glasgow.

Going head to head with shortlisted entries from Dundee and Angus College and North East Scotland College, the Borders team was delighted to be shortlisted in recognition of the College’s successful use of internal communication platform ‘Yammer’.

Borders College was represented at the awards by Angela Cox (College Principal and Chief Executive), Cameron Reith (Marketing Manager), Rachel Macdougall (Marketing Officer) and Glen Turnbull (Publications Assistant).

Described by Cameron Reith as, “a place where staff could share ideas, thoughts and good practice in an informal way and in a way that empowered each staff member and gave them total control of what they could post”, staff use of Yammer directly supported the College’s own vision, values and behaviours.

When Angela Cox began as College Principal in February 2017, she was keen to increase the uptake of the social network, inviting all staff to sign up and start ‘yammering’. Within a short time, uptake had increased by 210% with 70% of staff posting on a weekly, monthly or occasional basis.

Going forward, the College is keen to continue to develop Yammer to enable all staff to share good practice, showcase innovative and collaborative practices within the College, and highlight and encourage a creative mindset.
