From education to employment

Danielle joins Cardiff and Vale College as its first Career Ready apprentice

Cardiff and Vale College student Danielle Halford has been employed by the College as its first Career Ready apprentice.

Danielle, who is 20 and from Barry, is studying for a qualification in Leadership and Management at the College as well as undertaking the apprenticeship, which will see her acting as peer mentor for her fellow Business students.

Career Ready is a UK-wide charity linking employers with schools and colleges to open up the world of work to young people aged 16-19. Learners at CAVC can apply to join the programme to run alongside their course and receive mentoring, masterclasses, workplace visits and internships.

Danielle joined the College’s Career Ready programme in 2016 to help build her confidence. While on an internship with Santander, she astonished her mentors with her ability and drive, and was invited to the attend the CBI’s annual conference to network, loving to take up challenges and learn from others.

“I’m so excited to have started my apprenticeship supporting Career Ready at Cardiff and Vale College while also studying a Leadership and Management course and I’m so thankful,” Danielle said. “Over the last few years I’ve had so much support from Career Ready Manager Tracy Bird in developing my skills and building a successful career path for myself – and now I’m working with her to support the programme myself which is an opportunity I never thought I would have.

“I’m absolutely thrilled and I can’t wait to see how the experience will help me in the future.”

Cardiff and Vale College Career ready Manager Tracy Bird said: “Career Ready has been a brilliant experience for Danielle – it has opened doors for her to a bright future and we are very privileged to have her on board in a working capacity.”
