From education to employment

James brothers celebrate success

It was a great day for the James family at NPTC Group of Colleges, as two brothers qualified as motor vehicle technicians together.

Thomas and Cameron James completed apprenticeships with Pathways, NPTC Group of Colleges’ work-based learning team and gained their Level 2 & 3 qualifications.

The brothers worked with their father at ET James, the family-run business in Rhayader, a KTM and Suzuki dealership with fully trained technicians for services and repairs. The garage is also a DVSA approved MOT test centre.

On site, Thomas and Cameron are tasked with light vehicle repairs, maintenance and diagnostics.

Further training is planned for the James brothers, as they look to become fully approved MOT testers and further their Continuing Professional Development (CPD) for general workshop technician practices.

Thomas and Cameron’s success follows on from our positive Estyn report this year, where Newtown College’s apprenticeships received a ringing endorsement from Her Majesty’s Inspectorate for Education and Training in Wales.

The inspection stated that “employers support their learners well and provide positive learning experiences for their learners,” and that “nearly all assessors have a wealth of expertise and know their learning area particularly well.”

Estyn summarised the partnership to be ‘well-established and mature with a clear strategic direction and leadership.’ The report also highlighted learners’ work within the community, recognising the positive interest and productive contributions made to a wide range of community projects.
