From education to employment

Paula’s career progression is all down to apprenticeship training @Siemens

Paula Houston

A dedicated worker from Siemens has developed her position with the company after undertaking an apprenticeship delivered by a north west training specialist.

Paula Houston, 39, who lives in Dalton-in-Furness, has worked at Siemens for more than ten years, starting her career as a receptionist and progressing into the role of business and administration assistant.

An opportunity arose for Paula to formalise her training with an apprenticeship in business and administration delivered by PHX Training.

Paula said:

“The business and administration apprenticeship was the perfect opportunity to develop my skills while working. I started studying my NVQ level two and never looked back. Once I completed my level two qualification, I was given the opportunity to progress onto the NVQ level three which I have now completed.

“The 18 months of training has given me the confidence I need to improve my skills and the support I received from Chris Carr, my course tutor, has been invaluable. Nothing was ever too much, he was even available outside of class time to answer any questions I had about my coursework.”

While undertaking the apprenticeship, PHX Training developed Paula’s core skills alongside courses in level one and two English, maths and ICT. This gave Paula the foundations needed to improve her skills to carry out the role to its full potential.

Colin Nash, learning & development advisor, Siemens Subsea, Ulverston said:

“Seeing Paula progress throughout her time at Siemens has made a huge difference to her and to our business. PHX Training has assisted us to upskill our existing workforce not just in business and administration, but also in warehousing.”

PHX Training has recently been approved and added to the Register of Approved Training Providers (RoATP) and now offers a new apprenticeship in effective business and administration skills.
