CLEARING 2018 SETS NEW UCAS RECORD

The data released by UCAS this morning shows a new record number of students placed through clearing, up 2.4% to 15,160.

Lee Lucas, principal and CEO of the Fashion Retail Academy, said:

“Though it hasn’t risen as much as expected, this is another record year for the number of students securing places through clearing.

“Clearing has very much gone mainstream over the past few years, with many students choosing this path as it allows them more time to make those important life decisions about what and where they will study.

“Many students are veering away from traditional courses because of high tuition fees, raising concerns over value for money. Instead, they are opting for more career-focused subjects to support a better outcome on graduation. These types of courses can promise a greater chance of getting into the job they ultimately want, and some courses are condensed so provide the same learning hours much faster.

“No one going through clearing should feel the stigma that once surrounded this type of application and, instead, view it as an opportunity to make sure their chosen course is actually the right one.”
