From education to employment

Training specialist expands with new centre

A north west training provider has launched a new learning centre to tackle unemployment and enhance education opportunities in Cumbria.

PHX Training has unveiled its new centre in Cleator Moor, after government statistics revealed that more than 25,000 households were unemployed in the area.

The new centre will become one of eight across the north west which provides a wide range of education programmes including apprenticeships and core skills alongside level one and two qualifications in business administration, customer service, team leading, management and warehousing.

Shirley Williams, development director at PHX Training, said: “The additional learning centre means we have the opportunity to offer even more people a positive learning experience and continue our work to develop skills in the north west while also getting people back to work.

“As we strengthen our services, we hope to develop our resources to meet the needs of both business owners and learners. As a growing company it is essential that we remain 100 per cent focused on the quality of everything we do, and we believe that Cleator Moor will allow us to continue doing this.”

Last month the centre took on eight learners to be part of a new initiative which gives individuals a set of key skills in specific areas, while also offering a solution to barriers learners may be up against.

Successful learners will be provided with a laptop, bike or driving lessons to broaden their horizons when it comes to applying for jobs at home or offering a resolution to transport issues which they may face.

The PHX team of qualified trainers delivers a diverse range of resources including offline, online and face-to-face services at eight training centres in Barrow, Blackpool, Carlisle, Morecambe, Preston, Workington, Cleator Moor and Southport.
