From education to employment

Withdrawal of apprenticeship frameworks

A list of the #apprenticeship frameworks, and the date when @IfATechEd will withdraw them, as part of the apprenticeship reform programme

The government will move from apprenticeship frameworks to standards by 2020. We can now confirm that all frameworks will be withdrawn by 2020 to 2021 academic year, as we expect that employers and providers will have completed the transition by this date.

The last date for new apprentices to start for all remaining live apprenticeship frameworks will be 31 July 2020. From 1 August 2020 all new learners must start on new, employer-designed standards.

Existing apprentices on frameworks will still be able to complete the framework, providing they started on or before 31 July 2020. It is our intention that these learners complete their apprenticeship framework by 31 July 2025 (accounting for any breaks in learning).

This announcement does not remove the power of issuing authorities (IAs) to withdraw frameworks when they believe that they are no longer needed.

We have published guidance above named, ‘Withdrawal of frameworks – guidance for Issuing Authorities’ to help IAs manage the withdrawal of frameworks and give adequate notice to the sector their frameworks have historically served.

We encourage employers and providers to let IAs know when they think that frameworks have become redundant.

You can see which IAs manage which frameworks on the apprenticeship framework delivery list.

This change will not affect those apprentices currently completing their apprenticeship on these frameworks.

  20. First published.
