Get support from your local English education hub

English hub schools will offer support to local schools to improve their teaching of early language and reading in reception year, year 1 and year 2.

What you can get

English hub schools will offer:

• showcase events highlighting best practice in phonics and early language teaching
• support to develop an action plan for improvement
• funding to buy resources to support excellent teaching in early language and reading
• an audit of the quality of reading and early language teaching in eligible schools

Who can get support

The programme is open to all schools with pupils in:

• reception – early years foundation stage (EYFS)
• year 1 – first year of key stage 1 (KS1)
• year 2 – second year of KS1

We will prioritise applications from schools struggling the most or those referred by national leaders of education.

Additional support for phonics and literacy

A series of 24 phonics roadshows will run across England before March 2019. These will aim to help schools use systematic synthetic phonics to support reading development.

When it’s available

Activities will take place throughout the year at 32 English hub schools across England.

What it costs

The support offered by English hubs is mostly free and funded by the Department for Education.
